Note de dégustation

The 2022 Oestrich Rosengarten Riesling VDP.Grosse Lage is from an old monopole that was too small to continue to exist, which is why it was added to the Oestrich Lenchen in 1971. The name has only been back on the vineyard map since 2013, albeit larger than before and including the western part of St. Nikolaus, which is why part of this wine (on 1.5 hectares) grows in the immediate vicinity of the Schlehdorn parcel, the finest selection of Kühn's St. Nikolaus holdings. The other one-hectare part of this cru comes from the original Rosenberg, the three parcels right next to the winery and on the other side of the road facing the Rhine. In addition to Spreitzer, Wegeler also cultivates half a hectare in the Rosenberg. The cru is surrounded by old walls and houses, which makes it a very interesting microclimate. The soil consists of clay, loam and a layer of loess, as well as a special feature—shell limestone. The 2022 grapes had a must weight of 94° Oechsle when they were picked at the end of September and beginning of October. Fermentation took place in old doppelstücks of 2,400 liters, in which the wine matured on the full lees until the end of May. Bottled at the beginning of August this year, the result shows a radiant yellow color and opens with an elegant and aromatic nose of perfectly ripe and concentrated fruit. Rich yet refined and delicately salty on the palate, this is a generous and seamlessly textured, very well balanced yet also mineral and tensioned Rosengarten with fine grip and mineral complexity. Still young, this Riesling will benefit from further bottle aging. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork.

Generous stone fruit, mango and pineapple aromas with a touch of fresh mint. Ripe and silky on the mouth-filling palate, all underlined by a layer of fine tannins that anchors this extravagance. Long dry finish with moderate acidity and a gentle minerality.

The 2022 Riesling Oestricher Rosengarten Grosses Gewächs is from a site of loam and loess with some limestone, harvested from 50- to 60-year-old vines and fermented in "Stück" and Doppelstück_. The nose already shows incipient evolution with a lifted hint of dried lemon and mandarin peel. The palate is beautifully bright, concentrated, ripe, and textured like honey while remaining absolutely dry. This has much direction and a balm-like nature, with tons of smooth charm and gorgeous citrus lift. (Dry)
Accords mets & vin
